Natural guide star requirements
- AO system uses light < 1050nm for guiding
- Telescope/AO/QE system WFS throughput ~30%
- Predicted guide star limiting magnitude
- M_v = 11 (500 Hz), typical
- M_v = 13 (50 Hz), possible in excellent seeing
- Lower noise detectors under investigation
- Correction varies with angular distance from guide star
- Guide star selectable within ~40 arcsec radius.
- Performance obtained in 1 asec (vis) seeing
- K-band, 5 minute exposure, 10 asec guide distance, Strehl = 50%
- J-band, 5 minute exposure, 10 asec guide distance, Strehl = 10%
- Support for closed-loop on-chip dithering now implemented
